Charles Skipton 81 Dies in Muscatine
Charles Henry Skipton 81 dies Sunday at 6 30 am in Belle vue hospital Muscatine after a fourteen month illness. Born December 31 1865 at Crawfordsville Iowa he was the son of William and Mary Norton Skipton. He spent most of his life near Washington and West Chester Iowa with the last fourteen years in Conesville. He first married Nettie Chilcote who died in 1893 leaving one son Earle who died in childhood. On November 25 1896 he married Nora Jeannette Bell who died July 9 1936. A daughter Ruby wife of Paul C Fischer of Muscatine survives with two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services Tuesday at 2 30 pm at Riley Meyers funeral home Muscatine with burial in Conesville.

Off Nantucket lightship in fog the army transport St Albans Victory was struck amidships by the Danish motor vessel Bolivia. Those aboard launched liferafts as the Bolivia suffered bow damage and flooding. Coast Guard planes circled the scene 17 miles southwest, with larger aircraft en route to assist.
