Ongania becomes Argentina president amid military coup
Lt. Gen. Juan C. Ongania assumed the Argentine presidency today after a bloodless coup that ousted President Arturo Illia. The junta of commanders-in-chief vowed to save the republic under a revolutionary statute replacing the 113 year old constitution. The regime dissolved congress, provincial legislatures, and all political parties, and announced immediate replacements for the supreme court and attorney general.

Span floated to close I 80 bridge gap over Mississippi
In Davenport Iowa engineers planned to place a 365 ton center span on barges to seal the final gap on the Interstate 80 bridge over the Mississippi River near Le Claire Iowa. The span measures 237 feet and traffic will be halted for 24 hours during placement with completion expected in October.

Mary Crone Chosen for Iowa Rainbow Girls Overseas Trip
Mary Margaret Crone daughter of Mr and Mrs Raymond Crone Washington Iowa has been selected by the Rainbow Girls of Iowa executive committee to represent Iowa as the Australian delegate. Appointed at the Grand Assembly in Ames June 20 to 22 she will travel to Australia to meet the Australian delegate and conduct official business. Forty four Iowa girls will represent the state elsewhere but Mary is the only Iowan bound for Australia in February. A 1966 Washington High graduate she will attend Ottumwa Heights Junior College next year and has been in Rainbow six years serving as Worthy Advisor. She expects to be away about a week to ten days and plans to return for schoolwork.
