Brighton native among drowning victims in Mississippi River incident
A Brighton native Donald Leroy Dawson 34 of Davenport drowned Thursday afternoon while swimming in the Mississippi River near Andalusia Illinois. He swam away from a boating companion who tried to reach him. the body was not found. Dawson was born December 6 1927 and married to Marjorie Deihl in Davenport on August 4 1951. He served in World War II and worked as an inspector at the Rock Island Arsenal. He is survived by his wife his father Raymond Dawson a cousin Richard Davidson and a grandmother Mrs Helen Daw. Funeral services are planned in Davenport at Range Chapel with burial at Memorial Park Cemetery.
