Iowa groups earned several honors at the Junior Chamber of Commerce national convention in Kansas City. The Washington Jaycee chapter won the Clarence H. Howard Memorial award for outstanding chapter in the 10,000 to 25,000 population group. Robert Jones was elected among 10 vice presidents with 2,600 votes. He also received a Clayton Frost memorial plaque as a distinguished state president. Centerville cadets, a 19‑member marching girls group, won first in the small musical division. The Oelwein high school band, Iowa’s only entry, took third place among large musical groups.
