One Hundred Planes Land in Washington

Nearly 109 planes landed at the Washington airport for a Sunday flight breakfast by the Washington flying club. Weather hindered many pilots from attending though planes came from across the state and Illinois. A crop spraying demonstration from an airplane was on the program.

Wayland Resident Chris Richelberger Passes After Heart Attack

Wayland resident Chris Richelberger, 63, died Sunday afternoon at Mercy Hospital Iowa City after a sudden heart attack. He had been admitted a week earlier for heart illness. Funeral services are set for Tuesday at Sugar Creek Church with Rev. Gingersehn and Rev. Leienty officiating. Zehir Funeral Home handles arrangements. Born April 22, 1895 in Hopedale Illinois, he was the son of Peter and Katie Acker man kichelberger and married Leah Gra be Jan. 18, 1920. Survivors include his wife, father, three children Evelyn Grace and James, one son deceased, a brother Nils of Wayland, and sister Mary of Hepdale.

One Legged Chicagoan Admits Gang Role in Bank Robbery

Chicago police say a one legged man confessed to being in a bandit gang that robbed a gambling house and handbook near Western Springs. The suspect, Jerry Malek, 27, named three other members, with planes, dogs, and searchlights aiding a large manhunt across 25 western suburbs. Five guns were found at his southside home.

Woman seeks free ride to city hall as taxi refuses

Katherine Hoskinson, deputy city clerk in Evansville, called police when no taxi would take her to work. Two patrolmen responded but she remained late, explaining that she merely sought a free ride to the city hall.

Mr and Mrs Lamont John Duwa and their infant son of route one Riverside were injured Saturday night when their car collided head on with a truck driven by F G McGoldrick on Highway 1 two miles south of Kalona Iowa. Deputy Robert Fillmore said both vehicles left the soft shoulder before retrying to center and crashing. The Duwas were treated at Iowa City hospital for cuts and bruises not believed serious.

Des Moines police declined to ID a suspect in the slaying of Delbert Bass a 24 year old pressman found beaten in the rear seat of his 1941 Chevrolet outside a Des Moines tavern Saturday. Detective Chet Castelline said a witness placed Bass with a woman and another man earlier in the day and that questioning of arrestees yielded details of the encounter. The force noted they have learned the killer's name but would not release it.
