Conductor Killed After Fall From Milwaukee Train
Jerry Collins, 74, of Ottumwa, died Sunday night after falling from a Milwaukee train at Linby. He served as a conductor for the railroad and had lived in Ottumwa 45 years. Kalona resident Van Vodicka 57 died Saturday at the veterans hospital in Des Moines. He was a World War I veteran and a carpenter. Funeral services were held today at the Kalona Methodist church, with burial in Richmond public cemetery. He was born July 13, 1892, in Kalona and lived nearby most of his life. He married Dillie Blakely on March 7, 1928. Survivors include his wife, a daughter Dorothy at home, three brothers Tony Iowa City, Stanley Washington, Ladd Berwyn Ill, and a sister Mrs. Mary Yansky Iowa City.
