Big Army Bomber Stuck in Mud Here
A B 29 bomber was stuck in mud west of Washington on Saturday while being moved on three trucks toward Des Moines for an Iowa centennial celebration. The fuselage truck got bogged at a railroad overpass, was freed by a county tow, and then headed west on a timber road toward West Chester.

Double funeral planned for Griggs and Hotle after West Chester crash
Two West Chester men Clyde Griggs and David Hotle were killed when a Piper Cub from Wellman crashed near their home. Griggs, 25, pilot of a B-17 during WWII, died at the scene after a low flight and a tree touch. Hotle, 25, burned and injured, died at county hospital. Burial services are set for Washington Methodist Church with military honors from the Leon Beatty American Legion post.

One Dead Two Hurt In Auto Accident Near Huxley Iowa
In Huxley Iowa on June 24 a car driven by Marvin L Carpenter 1 Des Moines killed him and injured Gerald McCann 40 and Harold W Hunt Osceola. The trio were en route to Estherville when the vehicle left the pavement rolled and toppled 600 feet. Hunt said speed was 0 mph. Charges will be filed in Story county against McCann owner of the car. Carpenter survived by his widow. Services set in Des Moines with Osceola burial.

American MPs killed by Russians near Vienna
In Vienna on June 24, three Russian soldiers shot two U S military policemen after the Americans spotted a stolen U S jeep. The victims were identified as Charles Hilliard Elkhart Indiana and Pfe Jack Ferris Omro Wisconsin. Ferris was shot in the back as well. Both MPs were treated and are recovering. Russian authorities cooperated with the search, and a Russian soldier was wounded while another was arrested.
