Omaha sniper Frank Carter died in the electric chair at 6 12 A M in the state prison after confessing to multiple killings including Dr Seames and William Divitt. Carter smiled at execution and asked to be called Pat Murphy.
President Coolidge and General Leonard Wood wore ten gallon hats in a Western style photo session in Rapid City. Mrs. Coolidge and Mrs. Wood posed together while photographers sought scenic hills and the first lady declined some questions. General Wood appeared rested after a difficult journey.
Three northeastern Iowa counties approved road bond issues totaling about 3.1 million dollars with Buchanan and Winneshiek voting large margins. Bremer and other counties also backed bond plans to fund hard surfaced primary roads though turnout varied. Future elections are planned in several counties including Davis, Humbert, Mayton, Montgomery, and Guthrie with actions pending next week.

Washington county 4 H clubs will join in a Rally Day on Wednesday June 29 at the Washington leily hall. Two programs start at 9 30 a m and 1 p m with talks by the county and state agents among others. Afternoon features pageants by Prairie Center and Riverside clubs and stunts by Fairview Fern Cliff and Red Brick clubs. Each girl to bring a dish to pass and sandwiches for herself and guests. Mothers invited. attendance urged. Full program to be printed later.
Miss Mildred Doran a village Caro school teacher and her flying friend Augie Peddlar a Flint aviator plan to fly to Honolulu next month. They ordered an air sedan and work is nearing completion at the Buhl Aircraft Co plant in Marysville from peach stones for experimental power if a Pennsylvania scientist proves successful.
KEOKUK June 24 Senator W Brookhart arrived to address the twenty second encampment of Spanish war veterans of Iowa and the eleventh auxiliary session urging that Congress focus on farm aid relief. He stressed agriculture will fail without legislative relief and flood victims need relief bills. The event included Judge Charles Dewey of Washington speaking at a veterans banquet.
Mrs. George Hayes, 76, was struck by a car driven by Arnold Pence four miles west of Washington while walking home from a neighbor's. She sustained severe injuries and remained under a doctor's care with uncertain outcome. Pence stopped and assisted. Hayes is Owen Hayes' mother.
A northern storm moved fast from Nantucket to Newfoundland delaying Richard Byrds Venture America after it had been towed into take off position. Commander Byrd kept the tri motor Fokker ready for a moment's notice as forecasters warned the storm would linger likely until Sunday.
The Western Asphalt Paving corporation of Sioux City won the Monona county primary road No. 7 paving contract, awarded within Onawa limits. The bid is 2.44 a cubic yard, totaling 564,962.83 dollars, with work expected to finish by November if weather cooperates. Hubert Byverest, president, signed the contract. A separate Blencoe main street contract went to Harlan Lynch of Turin at 2.75 per cubic yard.
SAN DIEGO California June 24 Lieut Lester J Maitland and Lieut Albert F Hagenberger plan a California to Hawaii flight with three motor army planes in August or July 24 to 31 subject to General Patrick approval They will test here further before takeoff and weather permitting government authorization was given in Washington with Patrick en route to San Francisco for final checks. In Los Angeles Dick Grace will attempt Honolulu to Los Angeles flight late tomorrow or Sunday backed by Major Grant Dodge with a target of 2300 miles and about 20 hours of flight.
Oscar Brock 1869 07 31 to 19xx died at eight this morning at 719 North Iowa Avenue after a short heart illness. He worked as a freight clerk at Milwaukee station and previously owned Washington Bottling Works opened in 1893. Survived by wife Marie Tracy Brock four children Mildred Rosenbaum Pred D P Paul and Alleen one grandson and five siblings. He was a Mason.
Memphis June 24 Aaron Sapiro has been ousted as general counsel for the American cotton growers exchange. Abe Waldauer a Memphis lawyer will succeed him and draft the exchange five year plan to be signed by all member state organizations.
American Legion drum and bugle corps gave its first public performance to large crowds at the carnival. The group played on streets and in show tents to strong praise and high expectations as members drill further. The corps featured Snare drums led by Jack Ream, Ball drum Charles Denison, buglers Averette Griffith Arthur Dankwardt Jesse Radda Cloyce Kerr. Charles Clark drum major.
Secretary Hoover announces that Charles Lindbergh plans to pursue commercial aviation. The statement follows a luncheon with air officials, Lindbergh’s St Louis backers, and Drake. Hoover noted plans are not yet final but likely to take shape soon. Lindbergh may leave Washington for New York today.
The obituary honors Mr Brock a member of Washington lodge and Cyrus chapter and Woodmen. A regular Methodist church attendee he was known for industry and integrity and valued family life. Funeral services are Sunday at 3 pm at A Jones funeral home with burial in Elm Grove cemetery.
In Lansing Kansas 8328 prisoners at the state penitentiary mine shaft mutinied over parole rules and provisions. They demanded sever al concessions including food gifts and bias against parole board members. Officials prepared arbitration as five men were to surface after seventy two hours underground.
Colonel Charles Lindbergh will make a goodwill flight to Ottawa on July 2 to attend Canada’s diamond jubilee with a stay through July 3. He met with Secretary Ketlodge and other officials to discuss future plans for commercial aviation and a possible New York to St. Louis passenger air service with the Robertson Company.
In Centerville Iowa a Mystic Louisiana resident Mrs Agnes Smith died after drinking lye she believed to be water. The cup was filled with lye diluted in water and she died two days later. Separately Mrs F EB Whitley denied presidential candidacy for the Izaak Walton League saying she cannot run due to federation duties.
