Economist predicts hog prices peak by midsummer
United Press International reports Antona State University economist Gene Futrell says live hog prices in the state have already topped expected summer peaks with an average around 51.48 per hundredweight. He notes observers anticipated 45 to 50, and that beef and pork price resistance may keep markets from rising further. Cattle prices are also rising with choice steer averages near 52.80, up from 39.22 a year ago. Futrell says cattle and hog prices must be fairly close to peak.

Washington woman injured in crash on Highway 78
Mrs Mae Earll and her husband Dale were eastbound when they collided with David Booth 19 of Brighton after he lost control and crossed the center line. Mrs Earll suffered a leg injury reported as six breaks and was taken to University Hospitals Iowa City. Booth and Earll 59 received minor injuries and were treated at Washington County Hospital then released. Charges pending against Booth. Both vehicles were demolished.
