U S agriculture department projects a total pig production of 99 079 000 head for the year 1951 with 60 979 000 spring pigs and a fall crop of 39 000 000, signaling lower pork prices next fall and winter and the largest crops since 1942.
In Pittsburgh area, two independent dairy milk trucks were dumped and a driver beaten as the seven county strike widens. Donald Gibson, 29, was dragged from a Reed Brothers Dairy Co. truck and assaulted by eight men. A truck was driven off a hillside after being seized near Darlington, worsening the 13 day stoppage that has halted milk deliveries to about 3 million people. Negotiators neared a settlement as talks resumed at 5 p.m. with dealer representatives.
Mrs. Fred E. Palmer 71 of Route 1 Washington died suddenly at home after a heart attack. Funeral 2 PM Thursday at United Presbyterian Church with Rev. George Kerr and Rev. EW Fastwood. burial in Elm Grove Cemetery. Survived by husband, one grandson Marvin Sproule, one brother Nelson Thompson. two daughters and a son are deceased.
Washington county Rural Youth group plans a barn dance at the Wittetoe farm east of Washington on Thursday evening June 22. The event starts at 8 30 with music by the Wickenkamp orchestra of Richland. All rural youth members and guests may attend for a door admission.
Doctors Reid and Gregory, veterinarians, moved into a new building at 1414 East Washington on Saturday. They previously used Reid’s garage during construction. The new facility offers better treatment space and marks an improvement over the former location. Dr. Reid has practiced for nineteen years, with Dr. Gregory joining about a year ago.
Sitler's Auto Parts sponsored a third live show attracting about 650 attendees from car dealers service station operators contractors and garagesmen. The program, held at the armory, featured Eddie Tullock and other acts with door prizes before Taylor's talk. Local support and customer enthusiasmmarked the event as a success.

Harold Jarvis marks his fourteenth anniversary as proprietor of the Modern Appliance Store in Washington. He came to town in 1946 and bought half interest from Carl Bauer, later expanding to the current location near the square. Three generations of Jarvises are connected to the business with his son Oren and his father John, plus a loyal staff.

Des Moines reports District Judge Martin Van Oosterhout dismissed the 1947 conspiracy indictment against former Polk County welfare director H. Thompson and ex-supervisors Williams H. Cotton Roy J. Hild and Charles B. Parmenter at County Attorney Eds S. Thayer’s request. Dewey remains charged on a separate conspiracy count to seek money by false pretenses, with trial possibly after September court term.
