Mrs Bertha Sheets and grandson Billy Sheets of Peery Oklahoma visited the Hering homes over the weekend. Elmer Mason and family called on the Joe Kolosick household. Allene Smith spent Sunday.
In Living Lake on June 20 Mrs Rennie Dawson reports that the neighborhood has planted corn and beans with help from town neighbors acting as one big family. Several residents used tractors to finish fields and prep ground, with locals noting Fred Hermann and Bernard as standout fields. At Leon Beatty Post American Legion meeting the nominating committee submitted a slate for the annual election of officers on Wednesday July 6. The proposed slate includes Brew er as commander Rommel as vice commander Birka as second vice commander Davis as adjutant Peters as finance officer Easter as historian Downing as publicity officer Stewart as chaplain Schoonover as sergeant at arms Frink Kennedy and Wolf as executive committee members.

A Newkirk Louisiana high school report card for Gladys Roos was found mud-splattered and punctured by Farmer Maurice Oleson of Emmett township after last Friday night's storm across Sioux and O'Brien counties. Gladys reportedly earned all A grades.
Spirit Lake officer reports Falon Mor tensen 16 of Royal died in hospital from injuries after falling from an amusement park roller coaster Sunday. He was with Royal youths who said he stood up as the car took the second dip.
Funeral services for Robert Ernest Crawford age 15 of West Chester who drowned in a quarry near Chester were held yesterday afternoon at L A Jones funeral home. Rev W Munster led the services attended by many friends. Pallbearers were six recent West Chester High School graduates: Fred Bauer Robert Stort Clifford Porter James Eckes Donald Smith and Ester Meyers. Burial followed at Feota Cemetery.
Pearl Harbor June 21 The warfront report says a major naval clash looms off the Marianas between the American 5th Fleet and possibly Japan’s fleet as Nimitz notes large Japanese forces near the area. The U S has shot down hundreds of enemy planes while Saipan’s invasion continues.

About half the subscription cards have been returned with many workers continuing canvassing this week. Reports praise friendly reception and clear roads though some areas could not be reached.
Secretary James Forrestal said U S forces may have closed on parts of the Japanese fleet west of Saipan in the Marianas with sightings 50 to 600 miles away. Fred Downing spoke on the proposed memorial building project.
Michigan automobile and truck registrations fell by 4.9 percent last year, contrasting with a 1 42 license plate figure.
Court house offices will be closed on Thursday while county officials attend a school of instruction in Des Moines this week. Some officers have already left for Des Moines and more will go tomorrow, including deputies.
At the Washington County Wool and Sheep Growers association lamb grading today at Milwaukee yards nearly 100 lambs were received from 15 farmers. Blue lambs sold for 16 dollars, red for 15, green for 14.50 and yellow for 14.50 with one black lamb at 19 dollars. Guy Cole of Wilson & Co Cedar Rapids purchased the lot. Kansas donated 124,673 books to armed forces in a state wide victory book drive led by the American Library Association Red Cross and USO.
Rome reports the British 8th Army cleared Perugia after an all night fight and moved three to four miles beyond the town. French and American units on the 5th Army front pressed northward amid heavy resistance while rain slowed actions and German rear guards defended positions along the central front.
