Chester M. Cogswell 54 promotion manager for National Life Co. of Des Moines died by jumping from a window between the ninth and tenth floors of the Hubbell building. He had worked for about 12 years and his position was to be abolished to cut costs effective July 1. Coroner J. W. Bailey stated the case is suicide.

Fire claims life of George F. Bauer in Bluffs residence blaze
George F. Bauer 74 died after a burning tool set his home ablaze. Witnesses report he ran into the burning building and collapsed face down about 20 feet away.
