Editors Outline Standards For A Good Newspaper
The Marshalltown Times-Republican discusses criteria by which newspapers are judged, urging honesty, objectivity, mature judgment, good taste, and public-spirited roles. It endorses strict standards, promises continued effort to improve, and invites reader judgment on The Washington Evening Journal. It then criticizes a Senate bill to divert up to 2 billion from trust funds, calling it fiscally irresponsible and potentially criminal. It links rising litter in parks and recreation areas to budget needs and urges public action to curb pollution and support anti litter programs.
