Nearly two inches of rain pushed the weekly total to 9.25 inches and worsened flood risks for crops. Culverts on dirt roads washed out, creeks overflowed, and the Skunk and English rivers neared flood stages threatening travel and agriculture near Brighton Coppock and surrounding areas.
A mother Mrs Geraldine Sleep aged 28 and her two children Richard 8 and Iona Marine drowned in the old city reservoir. The girl’s body washed ashore about seven p.m. and two hours later the mother and son were recovered by divers. Rescue squads failed to revive them. They reportedly left their home in Corning about two o’clock yesterday afternoon.

Leon P. Hopkins, a lifelong Springfield resident and the last man known to have seen Abraham Lincoln’s face, died yesterday at age 95. He recalled unsealing Lincoln’s casket during the 1901 tomb remodeling.

The Washington church formally welcomed back ministers Gr. Fred E. Miller and Walter Smith at a reception last evening in the social parlor. Klein served nearly twelve years with perfect attendance and many funerals and weddings. Osineup led the choir for a year with strong effort. Potential replacements are being sought. Members of the music committee include George Dare Lyle Wilcox Mrs Harry Simpson and Mrs J D Dayton.
The United Presbyterian Vacation Bible School will end its two week run this Friday and pupils will perform at the Sunday morning church service. William Brewer will preside at the service and plans to enter Pittsburgh Seminary this September. He will also speak at the evening service of the United Presbyterian church.

Annual election of officers for Leon Beatty post of the Legion is to be held Tuesday, July 2. A joint county meeting of the Legion and Auxiliary is dated for Wellman June 26 and the district meeting at Mt. Pleasant June 27. Plans are being made for a Legion carnival the week of July 20. Members of the Auxiliary joined last night in hearing reports from three of the four boys who attended the Boys State. Doug nuts and coffee were served by Auxiliary members.
