Riverside Woman Hurt After Fall From Cement Wall

Salemink failed to see the parked truck after dust blinded him at 11 05 PM. A third vehicle was damaged as the impact pushed the truck into another parked car owned by Bernard V Payne of Washington. Death of Washington real estate dealer Lester H. Orr
Lester H. Orr 65 of 502 South Iowa avenue died suddenly at home Saturday afternoon at 5. Funeral services will be held 3 PM Tuesday at the Methodist church with Dr. R Reed and Rev. Walter A. Smith in charge. Burial in Elm Grove cemetery. Orr opened a real estate agency in Washington and served 42 years on the city council. He helped organize the Federal Savings and Loan association in 1953 and was its director and former president. Survivors include wife Florence Harmon, brother Ralph, and five sisters. Funeral services for Arthur Woodruff will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. from Stephens Funeral Home and at 2 30 p.m. from Louisa Center church with Rev. W. L. Slanford in charge. Burial will be in Columbus City cemetery. Woodruff died Saturday in a Muscatine hospital after a long illness. He was born June 21, 1885 at Louisa Center, married Pearl Martin July 3, 1905, and survived by seven children, twenty three grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and multiple in-laws in Columbus Junction and nearby towns. He had been in the local feed business in Columbus Junction in later years.

Senate to End MacArthur Hearings Soon
The Senate committee investigating General Douglas MacArthur's dismissal agreed to wrap up the inquiry quickly. Plane crash on highway injures crew after emergency landing
A C 47 with 20 aboard made an emergency landing then rolled off a runway onto a highway near Omaha. None of the 16 passengers were seriously hurt. Pilot Capt. Vern L. Larson and co pilot Capt. Douglas D. Johnson suffered broken ankles. Johnson was cut from the wreck. The aircraft, from Hamilton Field California, was returning after a motor failure. Highway 75 was blocked for hours.
