Rites Thursday for Milton C. Slaubaugh

Kalona funeral services for Milton C. Slaubaugh 78 who died after long illness will be Thursday June 1 at 10 a.m. at Peterseim Funeral Home Kalona with A Lloyd Swartzendruber officiating. Burial follows in East Union Cemetery. He was born June 27 1885 to Henry and Magdalene Miller Slaubaugh and farmed near Kalona. He married Nettie Stutsman May 13 1913. survivors include wife one son Gerald Kalona two daughters Mrs David Plank and Pauline Slaubaugh Kalona one brother W H Slaubaugh Wellman and one granddaughter.

Leaders in pinochle marathon at St Joseph Circle

Margaret Payne and Teresa Hunzinger lead the St Joseph Circle summer pinochle marathon at the end of round five with 4600 points. Schools receive NDEA funds for science and language

Washington Community School District reports receipt of a $1 864 19 check under the National Defense Education Act. Of that total, $1 135 24 funds junior high science and $728 95 supports high school language classes. Superintendent John V Phieger announced the money this morning.

Hulst Resigns Washington High Basketball Coach Job

Gary Hulst, head basketball coach at Washington High School for two seasons, submitted his resignation to the board of education and accepted a basketball coaching position at Fort Dodge Junior College. His release from the 1964-65 contract was honored, leaving Washington without a replacement named.

May liquor receipts in Iowa down slightly in May

DES MOINES cIDPA State liquor store receipts for May totaled $3,433,947, up only $148,786 over last May. This 2 percent rise follows 20 to 25 percent gains in prior months. The Iowa liquor control commission closed its books on May 28, and Memorial Day trade will be included in the June report.

Anderson gets five years for riot role at reformatory

John M. Anderson aged 20 from Washington Iowa received a maximum five year term in Jones County District Court for his part in the riot at the State Men's Reformatory on May 7. The sentence will be added to his existing car theft conviction.
