In a June 7 board meeting, the Mid-Prairie Board of Education okayed contract documents for Wellman Elementary School and Kalona Elementary addition and authorized issuance to contractors. Bids planned July 12. construction to begin after bidder is chosen. A public celebration is set for Ainsworth on Saturday July 2 with parade at 2 p.m., pork sandwiches, rides, carnival, bingo, and street dancing.

Minor accidents checked by deputies
Washington County deputies report two minor accidents in the past two days causing about $1,000 damage. Meeker J. Hess, 39, of rural Washington, had about $500 damage when his parked car was hit by Floyd Olds, 84, who backed into it in a driveway off highway 92. A second two car crash at highway 92 and Military Road in Ainsworth caused about $550 damage as Deborah Boileau, 16, and Diane Frame, 24, collided while Frame turned left without signaling and Boileau passed on the left. Boileau was charged with passing in a no passing zone.

Justice Dept says pipeline rates could overcharge by 900 million
