New York June 16 The stalled talks between 200000 NMU CIO maritime workers and shipowners broke up with no settlement in sight. NMU President Joseph Curran and shipowners head Frank Taylor led separate sessions as conciliators planned separate meetings. About 80000 NMU seamen have sat down on ships along Atlantic gulf and Pacific ports halting roughly 700 vessels. The union seeks a 20 percent wage raise and a 40 hour work week proposal. The strike began when contracts expired midnight last night with no work until new deals are reached.
