Sioux City Charles Riggs Woodbury supervisor chairman announced John S. Ryan resigned in line with the board's request. Riggs noted state law disallows employment of relatives by an official, and Ryan had been working in the office of his father Clerk of Courts W T Ryan.
A foot bridge over the Little Sioux River near the power dam collapsed. Delbert Schultz, 25, a farmer, and 15 year old Peterson died in a futile rescue attempt for Elmer Van Heuvelen, who along with his 13 year old brother Ray, survived.
Mason City reports Charles C. Felt sues his sister in law Mrs. Carrie A. Felt for 5000 dollars plus interest since July 25, 1895. He asserts an oral contract from July 1, 1895 connected to injuries on Mrs. Felt's farm that led to his leg amputation and that payment was due after his mother’s death in 1934.
In Dubuque Dubuque County baby Dubuque newborn 3 month old boy Genzler suffocated when a pillow fell over his face at home. Mother placed pillow to block draft from a nearby window per coroner Dr Coady report.
Mr and Mrs Lee Coleman were sentenced for murder in the beating of Night Marshal Bert Conrey on March 17. Norman R Hays gave the husband 40 years at Fort Madison prison and the wife 30 years at Rockwell City reformatory.
Ottumwa notices announce the annual police short course at the University of Town from July 11 to 16. Capt. Carl M. Higdon, Ottumwa, Iowa State Policemen's Association president, sent notices to 77 cities. Des Moines reports state commerce commissioner George A. Huffman died from injuries after an automobile accident. His wife, Mrs. Huffman, who was also injured in the crash, died several days earlier.
Three month old Karene Herridge of Des Moines survived secondary anemia after two blood transfusions from her mother Mrs Layton idge of Mitchellville. She was discharged from Broad lawns General hospital after near death last Friday.

North English Iowa two unmasked gunmen robed the Farmers Savings Bank and fled north on route 149 in a black sedan with stolen plates. Opal Dennis identified two men about 25 years old and described the loot as 600 to 800 dollars. Authorities pursued with sheriff and state police joining from Sigourney and Mt. Pleasant.
Mrs. Leslie Dunlap reports Howell neighborhood children from Chicago will arrive June 21 for summer placements in Washington county. One girl Joan Kulaski aged seven lacks a home, brother Richard age six may also need placement. Rodney Meyer seven months old son of Mr and Mrs Harold Meyer of Wayland died at eleven o clock last night at the county hospital Mt Pleasant of an intestinal ailment He was ill since last Saturday and underwent an operation yesterday He was the couple s only child Funeral services are set for Friday with a service at two at his grandmother Mrs Minnie Suter s Wayland home and at 230 at Sugar Creek church

She claims 50 percent of profits from She Done Him Wrong while admitting a $30,000 payment for a bit part in Night After Night and agreeing to share half the earnings with Linder on She Done Him Wrong.
Franklin Pearce McCall, 821, truck driver and minister's son, was formally sentenced to death in the electric chair for the fatal kidnapping of Jimmy Cash Jr., five, of Princeton Florida. Judge H F Atkinson found him guilty of kidnapping for ransom after a nonjury trial. the execution date will be set by Governor Cone.
The House unanimously approved a senate backed bill allowing federal law enforcement to wire tap. The measure follows a Supreme Court ban and now awaits Senate action on an amendment before final passage.

The conservation commission announced that East Okoboji lake was caught 44 days later in Lake Minnewashta by Mrs. B. L. Arnold of Washta IA. The fish had travelled two miles through three lakes.
Des Moines reports Jimmie Putnam, age ten, declares Black Beauty the best book he has read. In three years he has read 1, 0023 books, averaging one daily. He will enter fifth grade this fall. When asked if he does anything besides reading, he replies, Not if I can help it.
Iowa City reports the university's new men’s dormitory, a $325000 building with 17 singles and 112 doubles, is more than half full as reservations continue at a steady pace three months before fall term. Completion is slated for late August. 243 students can be housed.

The University of Iowa reports $22,725 in grants and gifts for the first six months of 1938 to support research. The Markle foundation provides $8,000 for eye research, the National Research Council contributes $7,300 for biology studies, and John E. F. Markley of Mason City gives $2,500 to sustain Hammond scholarships with $100 for a law essay prize.
