Sheriff’s officers report three accidents in county
Washington County sheriff's officers logged three crashes on Friday night with injuries minimal or absent. Vicky Farrington and James Small collided near Old 92 causing 225 dollars damage to Farringtons car and 150 to Smalls. Small faced charges for damage to another vehicle and public intoxication while Farrington faced a defective rear light equipment charge. A second single car crash on Highway 22 near Riverside left Alas Carmichael hospitalized with minor injuries after his car rolled four times, with about 1000 dollars in damage and a failure to have control charge. The third crash on Highways 1 and 92 involved Russell Snider whose car crossed the center line and hit a cement tube, causing 2500 dollars damage. Snider was charged with failure to have control and passenger Marjorie Peiffer was hospitalized with possible head injuries. An additional accident Saturday morning saw Phillip Greene lose a semi truck tire blowout, causing 1000 dollars damage with no injuries or charges. In Cedar Rapids, Donald Dobbins drowned Friday when thrown from an overturned canoe in Robbins Lake.

Dozens of tornadoes sweep seven states Friday
Dozens of tornadoes touched down in at least seven states including Minnesota Wisconsin Iowa Illinois Indiana and Oklahoma as violent thunderstorms swept the East Midwest and Southwest. In Stillwater Oklahoma the OSU campus suffered heavy damage with up to half the major buildings hit and five injured. Authorities planned disaster declarations as looting occurred and shelters were used.

President Ford marked the Army 200th anniversary with a speech urging a large modern ground force to deter war in the nuclear era. He flew to Fort Benning Georgia to observe maneuvers and met with Georgia Republican leaders to aid his 1976 campaign.

Bombs Shatter Windows in Chicago Loop Attack
Two bombs believed planted by a Puerto Rican group exploded in Chicago's Loop injuring three people and shattering windows up to the fifth floor. Two couples found a bag on a bank window ledge containing dynamite and a propane cylinder, tossed it from their car, and the blast occurred. A second explosion hit the United of America Bank seven minutes later. Police heightened security for the Puerto Rican Day parade and later cleared the two couples of involvement.

Iowa House Passes Tax Relief Bill For Elderly Widows
The Iowa House approved a measure 89 to 0 to expand property tax relief for elderly Iowans. It broadens eligibility to widows 55 and older and adds mobile home residents, with relief scaled by income up to 100 percent for the poorest. Initial effects begin January 1, 1976, with relief on September taxes next year.
