Harper community mourns 22 year old Leslie Dean Stark killed in a head on motorcycle collision with a car driven by Keith Elmer Kent about 1.5 miles south of Keota on highway 77. Stark, born 1948 Osceola, served in Vietnam and leaves parents siblings and a grandmother. Funeral services planned in Keota and Osceola with burial at Grand River.
Iowa highway commission employees threaten a action over a three point program demanding wage hikes and merit system protections. Gov. Ray and Senate leaders oppose broad increases urging fairness and funds be used for all state workers.
Eighty-one junior 4-H members from Washington County attend sessions at Lake Darling Youth Center near Brighton this week. Camp directors are Julia Gamon and Gene McCracken with staff including Arden Messer and several cooks and lifeguards. The Port City rides, concessions, and barbecue open Friday afternoon, with additional entertainment including a teen dance and a Saturday night Country Kings orchestra dance.
