Famed California Redwoods Draw Tourists From Throughout Nation
The coast redwood region along Northern California attracts visitors from across the country. Coast redwoods reach 300 feet and 2200 years, spanning Monterey to the Oregon line. The Sierra redwood is inland in the Sierra Nevada and has no commercial use. California pioneers built a wood industry around redwood lumber, and conservation efforts created memorial groves and state parks. The California Redwood Association runs a tree farm system to ensure sustainable timber, with growth rates of about 1,000 board feet per acre per year in young stands.
