Mrs. Donald Galbraith said George Ferris of Williston North Dakota forced his way into her home to sell a magazine and then, once inside, turned on the radio and asked her to dance. Ferris 22 was jailed on charges arising from the incident.
Summer term enrollment at the Iowa State Teachers College exceeded 1500, about 300 students more than the previous summer. The increase reflects rising interest in the institution’s programs and offerings.
Among departing students at Corpus Christi academy are seven sets of twins, including two consecutive pairs. Joseph and Catherine Hergenreter, ages 12, leave alongside Adam and Margaret Hergenreter, aged 10, as part of the exit.

Fairfield firm Harper Brush Works back toward health as Paul Harper reports now employing 15 full time workers and several hundred salesmen nationwide. Eleven workers have returned to the factory since early spring. A. K. Harper, the owner, started the factory about 35 years ago.
WEST UNION Sam Morrow of Oelwein is jailed here accused of stealing 302 dollars from his divorced wife. He was brought back by officers from Fort Dodge, Iowa.

A Minneapolis & St. Louis freight train crashed into a Rock Island passenger train south of Rock Island Iowa. One man Eli Meyers 50 of Oelwein died in hospital and six others were injured all taken to Burlington hospital. The crash occurred at a crossing due to both trains assuming open blocks.
Eight Midwestern states petitioned the AAA to provide 26 cents a bushel loans on the 1935 oats crop. Chester C. Davis, AAA administrator, led the meeting noting a bumper oats harvest could depress prices and affect wheat and corn schedules. About 130 million dollars would finance loans on roughly 120 million bushels, limited to signers of 1935 corn hog or wheat reduction contracts, with borrowers agreeing to cut 1936 oats acreage by up to 25 percent.

Keokuk Iowa local Christian church hosts a half hour musical prelude at 7 p m followed by a forum on church board duties with Rev Vernon H Carter and Christian denomination members from Keokuk and Washington county invited. A fellowship hour and fifteen cent refreshments conclude the event. Dr S P Telford urges all local members to attend.
Des Moines reports the 1935 old age assistance tax may be paid before month end without penalty. Delinquency starts July 1 with a 1 percent monthly penalty. Offsetting against poll taxes is no longer provided after July 1. State treasurer notes $1,303,000 in 1935 per capita tax has accrued but not yet available to the commission.
Dr J C Bolce of Washington was elected medical director at the Iowa state G A R encampment in Waterloo. Horace B Kelly of Grundy Center was chosen state commander as fifty five Civil War soldiers attended the sixty first encampment in Iowa.

In Keokuk a man robbed the Glaser Hardware Co. of 55 dollars by phone from an adjoining store. He asked that a package be delivered so Mrs. Glaser would leave the shop, enabling the theft.
Iowa will issue new driver licenses using a photostatic copying machine and a rented operator team. The process aims to produce 30,000 licenses daily by July 6 for over 1.1 million licensed drivers, with 25 cent renewal fees. Licenses will be 3.6 inches wide and feature revised good behavior stubs, with numbers assigned in order of application.
