Deficiency Bill Reported In House
The second deficiency bill, the last major appropriation measure of the session, was reported to the House by Chairman Wood. It carries about 66.2 million dollars to cover deficiencies in prior appropriations and for supplemental funds for the fiscal years ending June 30, 1920 and June 30, 1921. It also includes three indefinite items for settlement of German, Austrian and Hungarian claims against the United States totaling up to 51 million. Total authorization reaches 101 million with 50 million already appropriated. The bill enables remaining funds if needed. The Boulder Dam item tops the list at 10.66 million for starting construction, per President Hoover and Interior Secretary Wilbur. Army air corps funds 4.64 million previously appropriated are continued to be expended on flying fields and depots nationwide, with an additional 0.5 million for army rations included.

The postoffice department is allotted 1,000,000 for land acquisition in New York City with 1,500,000 previously set for land. Other projects include a Iowa customs house and postoffice at 125,000 and a Sioux City complex estimated at 470,000. The weather delays harvest and harms the corn crop by delaying warmth needed for growth.
