Washington businesses planning to participate must contact the Chamber of Commerce by Friday. Pete Peterson, chairman of the Chamber's Retail Merchants Bureau, said final plans for the annual parade are being made for next Wednesday.
Ray Rathmell of Washington died from injuries after falling from a scaffold while aiding a house construction at Winfield. The retired groceryman, living at 930 East Polk Street, had worked part time as a carpenter for a local builder. Details were unavailable at press time.
Iowa House revised and sent back to the Senate a bill tightening gambling law loopholes. The measure ties gambling permits to liquor licenses for bars and taverns and would revoke liquor licenses where owners knew illegal activity occurred. House backs accountability for premises gambling.
Washington County Pork Producers and Porkettes plan the Pork for Pop promotion over Fathers Day weekend. A ham will be presented to the father of the first baby born at Washington County Hospital on Fathers Day or the day after June 15, presented by Susan Fulton the 1975 Pork Queen. Three pound pork loin roasts will be given away at five county stores with registrations noon Thursday to 11 am Saturday at Hy Vee Jack and Jill Fareway Kalona locations.
Guards stormed a British Columbia penitentiary to end a 41 hour siege. One female hostage was killed, two inmates wounded, and two inmates injured. officials confirmed the drama finished and the hostage death named Mary Steinhauser.
The Rockefeller Commission reports the CIA spied on Americans, opened mail illegally, and conducted surveillance and LSD experiments resulting in a death. Highland superintendent Roland D. Gustafson resigns effective July 1 after 18 years leading the Highland Community School District. Board of Education accepted the resignation with no successor named, Gustafson citing personal reasons and plans for the near future remain indefinite. He is 50, from Ainsworth, married with four children, youngest just graduated high school.

Kent Keating previously won a local camp scholarship to Dorian Camp Luther College Decorah June 15 to 21.
Mo Udall says the strip mining fight continues after a 278 to 143 House vote fell short of overriding President Ford's veto. He plans to rally farm groups ranchers unions and environmentalists and consider tacking the measure onto another must pass bill.
The Washington County Cowbelles will award a five pound rolled beef roast to the first father whose baby is born on Father’s Day or after at the county hospital. Mrs. Robert Huff of Crawfordsville leads the Be fheef for Father effort for a second year.
Kalona voters will decide on issuing 150000 in general obligation bonds to fund a new municipal swimming pool. The measure, fourth attempt since 1969, faces a tight 60 percent majority amid strong support from locals and a wary older minority. City plans call for a scaled down pool with federal reimbursement and park improvements, with projected annual homeowner costs around 7.29 dollars per 20000 dollar home.
A Kalona bond proposal seeks 150000 in general obligation bonds to fund a municipal swimming pool project. The plan includes a 30 by 75 foot main pool, a 15 by 15 foot wading pool, a bathhouse, two diving boards, and a concession area with total costs around 130000 for facilities and 20000 for parking and landscaping. The pool serves Kalona and surrounding area with 300 to 400 swimmers capacity. Registered voters inside Kalona city limits vote on Tuesday June 17 from 7 am to 8 pm, with completion projected by mid summer 1976 if approved.
