Brighton Man Held for Rape
Marion Gitkens aged 25 of Brighton is jailed in Washington county on a rape charge. He waived preliminary hearing, bound over to the grand jury with $10,000 bond. The attack occurred Saturday evening near Brighton after he gave the victim Dora Dunbar a ride home. Doctors reported evidence of rape and multiple injuries. Crying Baby Locked Alone In Closed Car on Business Street

Mary Elizabeth Canier widow of David Canier died this morning at 621 North Second Avenue after a seven week illness. Funeral services will be held at L A Jones funeral home Wednesday at ten, Rev. R. C. Keagy officiating. Burial in Woodlawn Cemetery. She was born December 18 1864 in Dixon Illinois and lived on a farm north of town after moving from Washington. She built the North Second Avenue home and managed her affairs for years. A longtime matron at the county courthouse rest room and active in Methodist, Woman's Home Missionary Society Plains Missionary Society and Eastern Star, she was survived by nieces and nephews and half-sisters.
