New York dispatch reports a holdup man fleeing after robbing Ernest Oppenheimer escaped with an $81 200 payroll. A partner, Frank Hall aged 20, was wounded by a stray shot and admitted to Harlem Hospital with a bullet in the abdomen.
The National Association of Manufacturers and the U S Chamber of Commerce urged Congress to reject President Eisenhower's six month extension of the excess profits tax. The CIO backed extending the levy, with Stanley H Ruttenberg arguing it funds fiscal stability. NAM directors narrowly voted 84 to 46 to oppose change, below the two thirds needed.

James Kirk Latta, 86, former publisher of the Morning Sun News-Herald, died at his Washington home at 9 20 p m Monday Funeral services were planned at the Morning Sun Methodist church with burial in Elmwood Cemetery Morning Sun Latta had published the News-Herald for 57 years and was a longtime Iowa newspaper figure survived by his wife Veda and children Elda Weinrich Mildred Courts and Randall Latta plus grandchildren and great grandchildren
Marion Borders 84 of Crawfordsville died Monday night after a year of poor health. Funeral services set for Thursday at 10 30 a m in Crawfordsville Methodist Church with burial in Crawfordsville cemetery. Jones funeral home in charge. Born May 4 1869 in Laurence County Kentucky. Married Laura Back April 8 1897. Survived by five children Claude Martha Borders Walter Borders Helen Sibey and Martha Sibey.
Marguerite Hering traveled with Mrs. George Westen Mrs. Julia Dawson and Mrs. Miller to Rock Island Illinois. They spent Saturday and Sunday with cousins Mr and Mrs Harold Crossett and daughter Hannah.
The House Ways and Means Committee voted 23 to 2 to extend the reciprocal trade agreements law for one year as urged by President Eisenhower. The bill safeguards the program begun in 1934 and would add one tariff commission seat. The measure faces a Friday expiry and divisions split along party lines on related provisions.
Mrs. Herman B. Wodus of Norfolk Virginia was killed in a Shelbyville Kentucky auto accident Monday night. The 35 year old native of Columbus Junction Iowa was enroute with her husband and three children to visit her father Rudolph Schlichting. The couple's three children were unhurt. Mr. Wodus is in serious condition. Mrs. Wodus formerly Ruth Schlichting was reared in Columbus Junction. Survivors include her husband three children her father and her brother Thomas of Arizona.
Albert Janecek Jr of Washington county died suddenly in a truck ride with Richard Havel near White Oak district southwest of Washington. Funeral services are planned for Thursday June 11 at 2:30 pm at Jones funeral home. He was survived by his wife Mae Havel a daughter 12 and his mother Josephine Janecek plus three brothers and three sisters.
The Washington Junior Chamber of Commerce will sponsor a teen age road e o Saturday June 13 at 9 a m at Greenfield to promote safe driving among high school students. The top winner will advance to a state wide contest at Iowa City on July 18. Sponsors include National Teen Age Road e o and Liberty Mutual Insurance. In Bloomington Illinois an off duty officer arrested 18 year old Bruce Kinn of Peru Indiana as he broke into a gas station. Kinn claimed escapee status from an Indiana reformatory and admitted recent break ins in Sioux City Davenport Dubuque Peoria and East Peoria before an FBI check is conducted.
The South Korean National Assembly urged the government to reject the armistice and prepare to advance north for unification. The five point resolution would keep fighting despite a cease fire agreed by the United Nations and Communists. Anti-truce protests continue in Seoul amid U S pressure.
Panmunjom reports good feeling as Lt Gen William Harrison and North Korean Gen Nam Il meet briefly to discuss a final cease fire line. U N and Communist staff plan the 155 mile demarcation with a 144 mile buffer after the cease fire.
Floodwaters from the Floyd River surged through Sioux City and northwestern Iowa causing at least three deaths with reports of 3,000 people fleeing homes. Mrs Hampsten and her grandson drowned on a Sioux City porch while an elderly Spencer man died of a heart attack as floodwaters surrounded his home.
