More than 600 University of Iowa law students began their state bar examinations under the supervision of Attorney General Edward L. O'Connor in Iowa City.
Local stockman Emmetsburge Job Kibbie was injured after a falling ax from an emergency kit struck him on a stock train en route to Chicago. The accident occurred near Eagle Grove when the train halted suddenly, dislodging the tool above his head.
Ralph Intveldt, 18, was killed by a lightning bolt on his father Albert Intveldt’s farm near George while taking hay. Albert witnessed the tragedy from the farm home doorway during a sudden thunderstorm. The bolt also killed a team member.
Sioux City reports a second cattle raid at the J. J Grest farm near Correctionville. Sheriff W. R. Tiee and state agents William Zelinsky and Tom Lacey investigate after thieves stole 19 head, following a prior theft of 14 head less than a month earlier.

Milford civilians conservation corps officials report fast progress at the Iowa Lakeside Laboratory where four laboratory buildings and a new scientific library are being built with federal funds. Delegates to the state convention were chosen with Lao Sheangoski as alternate to the grand knight and Ed Wolfe as alternate to the past grand knight.
The Helghbers hosted a corn plowing bee for Lester Nicola who has suffered lumbago and could not work. Neighbors assisted with dinner and many residents plowed corn and hoed vines, with thanks expressed to all who helped.
Trinity Lutheran Church announces its fourth annual Vacation Bible School opening Monday June 22 and running for three weeks weekdays from 9 to 12. Children will study Bible history hymns and verses with handwork under the pastor and assistants. Last session July 10. No homework. Washington county board of supervisors began the official canvass of primary votes by reviewing poll books for errors. By noon they found no substantial errors, only a few corrections of one to five votes as they completed about half the books. Ned Morrow of Wellman trails by 19 votes in a key Republican supervisor race.
Washington county supervisors meeting as a board of equalization approved all township valuations for personal property and livestock with no changes. The report will go to the state board of assessment and review for final approval, with the state meeting on the second Monday of July to review county reports.
