A South Carolina flood devastates Pacelet and surrounding mills. Bridges wash away and mills lose buildings and machinery. Dozens killed or missing, including mill workers, with heavy property losses. Governor Yates supports Roosevelt for president.
Miss Gussie Mass a stenographer in Omaha dislocated her neck while combing her hair. She felt spine pain, was treated by doctors and surgeons who stretched ligaments to reset the cervical vertebrae, narrowly avoiding a severed spinal cord.
Arrangements are being made for President Roosevelts trip to Cleveland this week to attend the wedding of Senator Hanna’s wife. He will be accompanied by his daughter Miss Roosevelt See Ry Loeb and perhaps two or three other aides. The party will leave at 3 p.m. tomorrow and arrive in Cleveland by early evening. The return to Washington is expected before noon Thursday.
Dan Hinds, 18, a Melish factory worker in Madison Indiana, was caught with a rope around his neck during an attempted assault on a white girl named Hum. Hum. The sheriff detained him for grand jury proceedings.
