In Cedar Rapids a UPI report says three American Indian Movement leaders Carter Camp Leonard Crow Dog and Stanley Hodder were found guilty by an eight and four member jury of robbery and assaulting a federal agent during the 1973 Wounded Knee siege. Judge Edward McManus set sentencing for later after a readiness investigation. Defense did not call witnesses and argued the government's case was weak.

Iowa Senate OKs helmet rule for motorcyclists

In the eighth grade at Colegio San Jose in San German Puerto Rico Hugh Tosteson speaks Spanish most of the day yet he can spell well enough to win the 1975 National Spelling Bee champion prize of 1000 dollars. He set a Bee record as the first winner from outside the contiguous 48 states and defeated 78 finalists and about 7.5 million youths who entered local contests.
County Diabetic Screening Clinics Set Across Washington County
The County Public Health Department announces free diabetic detection clinics in eight locations from June 30 to July 10. Last year 563 people were tested, 28 referred, and 10 diagnosed as diabetic. The program targets adults over 40 and others at risk, with immediate test results and no charge. Clinics schedule includes Kalona, Brighton, Crawfordsville, West Chester, Wellman, Riverside, Ainsworth, and Washington with specific times.
