A 15 year old driver named John Brown had a safety record spoiled after a minor collision with a police car in Newark. Police revealed Brown had been driving without a license for the last 15 years.
Iowa's biggest Democratic turnout in 22 years saw Herschel Loveless defeat Lawrence Plummer for the governorship as the party logged over 115000 votes. Loveless led a strong Democratic showing, prompting talk of a repeat of Truman’s 1948 Iowa win while Hickenlooper overwhelmed Countryman for the GOP Senate nomination.

New FFA officers for 1956 1957 were installed with Rodney Letts president Jack Foster vice president Dean Weaver secretary Kenneth Bailey treasurer Larry Marek reporter and Yaro Chmelar sentinel.
Stevenson's Ridiculous Day parade kicks off at 9 30 in Washington with a morning parade along the square. Jay Brewer leads the free Kiddie Ride operation in Central Park from the northeast corner. Harold Johnson heads the Ridiculous Day committee with aides and afternoon coffee breaks funded by local merchants and suppliers. Traffic control along the parade route is advised by City Police with curb parking restrictions to ease congestion.
Sen Estes Kefauver conceded defeat today to Adlai Stevenson in California’s winner take all primary while pledging to stay in the race for the Democratic nomination. Stevenson led with 516,918 to 303,229 as 13,670 of 24,144 precincts reported, and Stevenson's national total rose to 371 convention votes.
A bandit entered a Milo branch of the People's Trust and Savings Bank around 2:30 pm Tuesday, displayed a gun from his shirt, and fled west toward US-65 with an estimated 1300 to 1400 dollars. Bank manager John Greubel, 64, reported the single employee was robbed. A green 1949 Ford with Illinois plates was seen, man described as about 40 with dark skin in dark clothes. A matching vehicle was sighted near Altoona later that night as investigators search the area.

Fred Schwengel has urged Congress to fund a new bridge. The Chamber of Commerce plans cover landing docks on both shores and an Illinois access road.
The Washington Industrial Corporation held its first stockholders meeting at the YMCA to elect a permanent board. Voting totals show Louis Kehoe Gordon Cooper and Keith Vetter as top directors for three year terms. Officers named include Keith Vetter as president Louis Kehoe as vice president Gordon Cooper secretary and C V Crull treasurer.
Des Moines police faced ticketing confusion during the daylight saving shift on May 28. Officers issued tickets on daylight time while most motorists remained on standard time, causing parking rules and fines to be misapplied. Municipal judges Ray Harrison and Howard Brooks refused to levy fines on tickets from the period, and Brooks dismissed 10 violators after resume orders.
Farnco S Bridger 68 Richland banker died of a heart attack at his home in Richland. He had been in ill health and the body was taken to Gould Funeral Home. Born Sept 27 1887 in Richland he was survived by wife Florence M Duval a son A F Bridger of Peru Ill a daughter Mrs Margaret Burford of Duncan Okla three grandchildren and two sisters Helen Bridger of Richland and Mrs L R Sidmore of Manson Iowa. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge Phi Delta Theta and a WWI veteran.
An Air Force F89 jet fighter crashed after overrunning the runway end and struck an auto. The victims were Mrs. Clair Usher of Minneapolis and her daughter.
Federal agents pursue bandits after three bank robberies in 24 hours across Iowa and Illinois. A Triumph NL bank was robbed of about 20000 by four masked gunmen, a Chicago bank lost at least 13666 with customers forced to floor, and Milo Iowa saw an unmasked robber take around 1400 after cashing checks. Law enforcement set roadblocks and deployed a patrol plane.
Keokuk Iowa suspends Midwest Transit Lines buses after fare hike failed and voters rejected city takeover. Elmer Davis says service halted due to unresolved expenses. Mrs. Mabel Moore, 78, broke her right leg after a fall on the Jackson sidewalk following a collision with a hit-and-run pedestrian. The incident was reported by UP.
