Peace Move Begun by Chinese Leaders in Civil War
Peking June 6. Marshal Chang Tso-Lin announced a definite peace move based on an agreement with Chiang Kai-Shek and Yen-Shan. Chang would oppose Communism and Hankow extremists, while Manchurian troops would hold the Yellow River line south of Peking and may shift toward a line near Paoting and Tsangchow.

Belgrade reports Jugo Slavia severed diplomatic relations with Albania after the Albanian government refused to release Jurashkovitch Dragoman of the Jugo Slavia legation and surrender diplomatic mail seized by police. Dragoman was arrested on espionage charges. The Albanian Charge D Affaires and legation staff left Tirana as the Albanian minister received passports at Belgrade.

Mrs Isabelle Nelson dies after long illness in Keota
Funeral services for Mrs. Isabelle Nelson were held at the United Presbyterian church. Survived by husband William Nelson and three daughters Mrs. Jennie Gardinier Mrs. John Carris and Mrs Frank Pringle, she spent most of life in Washington county. She would have turned 82 on May 22 and recently celebrated a 59 year marriage with Rev Willis Craft conducting the service. Burial in Keota cemetery. Keota chautauqua was rained out after floods delayed some talent arriving for the evening program.

Baptists appoint new pastor Arthur A Vinz at Washington church
The Washington Baptist church announced the unanimous May 22 call to Arthur A. Vinz who will become pastor after arriving from Chicago. Vinz, a 1927 Northern Baptist Theological Seminary graduate, has not yet met the congregation and will be ordained next Tuesday in Peoria Illinois. He plans to visit Washington June 12 to preach, with rumors of a future matron accompanying him.

Two Women Dead in Des Moines Auto Accidents
Des Moines records two fatalities from weekend traffic. Adelaide Harbach, 20, died when the car she rode in tipped over on the White Pole road west of Des Moines. Robert Cole was badly cut but not severely injured. Sam Carlisle of Omaha suffered a fractured skull and likely fatal injury. Mrs. C S Burkit died after a car struck her while crossing a street. Police blame high speed and festive brakes on the Johnson vehicle, and Cole says he was blinded by another car’s lights.

OSTEND Belgium June 6 With peace and goodwill as its watchword International Rotary opened the largest convention to date as King Albert of Belgium officially opened the gathering. Over 8000 Rotarians and families from around the world, including more than 3000 from the United States and Canada, traveled by special trains and ships for the event. Leaders praised the rising scope of Rotary and urged higher standards in business and stronger employer employee ties as delegates from 40 nations gathered for talks and multilingual sessions.

The Bellanca monoplane Columbia, flown by Clarence D. Chamberlin and Charles A. Levine, was forced down near Forst east of Berlin by a broken propeller after an Atlantic crossing from New York.
