The Washington YMCA pool hosts three adult mixed swim classes led by instructor Don Kiesey. Beginners swim at 7 p.m., intermediates at 7:45 p.m., and advanced at 8:30 p.m. Call the YMCA this afternoon to enroll. members pay 3.50 per series, non members pay 4.00.
Larsen Construction Co leads concrete work for Washington street widening with an Iowa Road Builders subcontract. Crews aim to finish in about 40 working days, weather permitting, as curbs gutters and removals proceed on South Iowa Avenue and North Second to Third Street. Gas main updates and relocation of curb boxes accompany conduit for street lighting.
Konrad Goettsche 57 died of a heart attack at his Richland home. Funeral services Sunday at Gould Funeral Home with Rev. Edward Philgreen. Burial in Richland Friends Cemetery. He was born in Burg Germany April 23 1901 and came to the United States in 1929 becoming a citizen in 1930. He lived in Rubio and Richland since 1954 and is survived by his widow three sons two daughters five grandchildren three brothers and one sister plus a step son. one son Konrad Jr. preceded him in death.
Washington Iowa armory project moves closer with House Armed Services Committee approval for construction. Washington training center and headquarters would replace Willits Building site. cost $149000 funded by Congress, awaiting Senate approval. Other Iowa projects include Sheldon National Guard building.
St Pauls Evangelical and Re formed Church held a Lake Darling camp from Sunday afternoon to Tuesday noon. Activities included crafts, basketry, leather work, wood burning, textile painting, seed wall hangings, boating, hiking, fishing, and entomology led by local leaders. Daily devotions and meals were organized by the Women’s Guild under Mrs Walter Sheets.

Dale Morrison, 50, is listed in serious condition at Muscatine General Hospital following a farm accident at the Morrison farm three miles east of Columbus Junction in the Indian Creek neighborhood. He suffered a fractured neck after being thrown from a manure spreader and landing on his head while working with his son Tuesday afternoon. he was taken to the Muscatine hospital and placed in traction.
Gen Charles de Gaulle flew to Algiers in WWII uniform to confront rebel officers and civilian leaders who refused to bow to his authority. Y's Men's Club plans a public auction to raise funds for YMCA service projects. Don Boyer announced Bill Bruty will donate his services as auctioneer. Members will donate and bring items, with pickups arranged by Y's Men or contact Ralph Kleese. The meeting opened with a World Series baseball film.
