The McNary Haugen farm relief bill failed 224 to 154 in the House. Supporters planned a substitute and a national conference was set for St Paul July 17-18 to expand the campaign for agricultural justice and equality as Congress nears adjournment.
The bullet that killed Freeman Louis Tracy fits a pistol found in Nathan Leopold's room. Leopold and Richard Loeb, millionaire university students, have confessed to kidnapping and slaying 14 year old Robert Franks. State's Attorneys plan to present their confessions to a grand jury while pursuing possible links to Tracy's unsolved death. Leopold remains defiant, saying death makes no difference.
The White House states President Coolidge will send no message to the national convention and favors the convention choosing the vice presidential candidate without White House input. Amb. Charles M. Warren is slated as chair of the resolution committee, with Frank W. Mandel of Wyoming named permanent chairman as the convention opens.
Washington June 3 The foot and mouth disease among cattle in California appears to have been checked department of agriculture officer announced today but they declared they could not be certain of complete eradication for several months.
Senator Walsh a Montana Democrat forward a draft oil investigation report to the Senate committee for approval. A likely public release is within a day or two and Senator Spencer a Missouri Republican may submit a minority report.

A physician's statement provided the first link to the Tracy killing, as authorities pursue the case across Chicago and Los Angeles where Frederick M. Greisheimer, uncle of Robert Franks, faces federal prison for forging narcotics prescriptions.
Bishop Homer F. Stuntz of the Methodist Episcopal Church died at the Methodist hospital in Omaha at 6 20 am after a stroke in Miami on April 12. Born January 29 1858 in Albion PA he studied law at Iowa University before entering ministry. He served missions in India and the Philippines, led foreign missions, became bishop in 1912 with South America as his field, and worked as national act or for Methodist War during World War I. He returned to Omaha and his death followed a gradual decline with total paralysis on his left side.
St Louis hosts the fifth Shriner hospital for crippled children with a big parade of Nobles at dedication on May 31 ahead of the Mystic Shrine convention in Kansas City. Hospitals in Shreveport San Francisco Portland Minneapolis St Paul Honolulu Springfield Montreal and sites planned for Philadelphia and Chicago aim to serve every crippled child nationwide. Each Shriner pays 2 annually toward the hospital fund.
Acting on a request from Major Frederick M. Martin, Major General Patrick designated Lieutenant Lowell H. Smith to perman ently command the global flight squadron. The plan for Martin to resume command later was dropped.
Boone June 5 Mrs Maria Bibb honorary president of the Iowa Federation of Women's clubs died here today. She was one of the founders of the women's club movement in Iowa.
Washington June 3 Congress will adjourn Saturday under a house resolution adopted today by the Senate. Leaders from both parties backed the plan despite protests from the La Follette insurgents who sought delays for farm relief railroad and reclamation legislation. La Follette’s one month recess proposal failed 36 to 52 and Frazier’s delay to June 21 failed 35 to 53. The adjournment measure passed 53 to 36.
The bodies of Dr C Leroy Messinger of the United States Weather Bureau and Lt James T Neely of Philadelphia were found near Bement Indiana after the army balloon S 3 exploded on a test flight. Neely in charge of the balloon and Messinger the observer.
Albanian nationalists captured Tirana after a clash that left about 100 dead or wounded, according to a Rome dispatch via Brindisi. Deaths and injuries were reported as the city changed hands following fighting.

Nominations go to affiliated bodies in Britain for selection, with arrival districts caring for emigrants.
Des Moines reports June 3 that Senator Brookhart's margin over Burton Sweet rose as precincts were counted. Early tallies place Brookhart ahead by about 12 000. later updates claim a 19 045 or larger lead with 70 counties claimed and 1 663 to 1 849 precincts counted.
George S. Christian Jr secretary to President Harding was subpoenaed to testify before a grand jury in the naval bases inquiry. Also called were E. K. Booth formerly in the Interior department Blrch Helms of New York connected with Pacific Coal and Oil Fort Worth Texas and George K. Thomas of the Pioneer Oil company.
