Buried Christ sermon shapes a hopeful church gathering

Mrs. B R Jenkins hosts a tea honoring Mrs. N B Rairden at the M K E Church after sermons on The Buried Christ. Rev H R Stark preaches at the Presbyterian service on the precious blood of Christ with reflections on atonement and the open door for graduates awaiting work in Ephesian context.

Death of John Winters A Respectable Town Resident

John Winters died at his home on June 2 at age 59. Born in Frostburg Maryland he had lived in Town since 1860. Funeral services were held this afternoon conducted by Rev. Thorne with Rev. W P Johnson assisting. Interment at Elm Grove cemetery. He leaves a wife and three children.

Fire damages comforts after sun hits stereoscope at Neiswanger home

Children explored a stereoscope upstairs and left it on a bed of comforts. Sunlight burned a comfort and created a large hole in another. Meanwhile the Presbyterian Young People Society plans a social in the church parlors with old fashioned dress and a cake and ice cream fee. The annual sermon to Academy students by Rev. J. R. Logue was well received at the Methodist church, and insurance will cover 370 for recent tire damage with repairs after term ends. The Academy reports record three term attendance and a thriving condition.

Band excursion day trip to Burlington and St Madison

The excursion on June 6 features a Burlington baseball league game and a steamer ride to St Madison. Attendees may stay in Burlington or travel to St Madison, with return planned for the evening. Train times to be announced. the trip will cost very little.

Special excursion train to Davenport from Washington

The Sunday special excursion train will depart Washington at 9 1 10 a m on June 9th. It returns from Davenport at an unspecified time. Round trip fare is $1 25.

Youth Arrested for House Breaking in Chicago

Bert Hawkins of 243 East Superior Street Chicago was arrested yesterday morning and brought before Justice Rogers on a house breaking charge after trying to enter St. Clair Lewis's home by raising a side window. The justice bound him over to the next term of court. Orion Lodge No 75 Knights of Pythias will meet at 8 p.m. with work in Page rank and important business.
