Two elderly Iowa women died in separate crashes amid the 1964 highway toll rise. Edith Rukgaber 72 of Washington and Florence Pergande 65 of Laverne were killed in a stop-sign collision near US 65 and US 20, and a second crash near a county road intersection killed Pergande in a car-truck crash.
