Fairfield report states Mrs. Louis Sydebothan 70 and Mrs. Ivan Edelstein 44 of Iowa City were hospitalized with injuries after their automobile collided with a car driven by Kk G Cook 64 of Brighton on Highway 34 west of Fairfield.
Des Moines reports that emergency relief programs will shift from the state to state and county welfare boards. Letters to county supervisors and relief administrators explain the change follows federal acts and new administrative setup approved by the assembly.

A large crowd attended a Tuesday lawn concert by the high school and junior high bands ending this year's activities. The combined bands had 140 players and performed favorites like Silver Threads Among the Gold and Poet and Peasant Overture. Memorial Day saw three bands in the parade with concerts in the park downtown and after the parade.

DES MOINES June 1 Township reporters start today on checking compliance of farmers to their 1939 corn and wheat acreage allotments under the Agricultural Adjustment Administration program. Parity payments for corn and spring wheat may begin by July, with a second check for all crops from mid July, to determine conservation payments. In Washington county parity wheat payments have been received for 42 farmers, with about 100 eligible in the county.

Townsend movement leader Dr F B Townsend observed from gallery as Ways and Means refused reconsideration. Federal and state investigators sought the cause of a Barberton gas explosion that blew open a four room school building injuring 556 pupils and four adults. Local official Eebroath reported a broken gas main as the apparent cause and sent two investigators to the scene.
