Barnett Buys Alcove Barber Shop in Safe Ostrander Block

J S Barnett has purchased the Alcove barber shop in the Hotel Allen block of Safe Ostrander and took possession yesterday. Ostrander and family will leave the city to locate in Muscatine or Kansas City. Barnett will begin immediate shop improvements. A new tennis club formed among East Washington youths with court at the Henderson sisters Jefferson Street home. Several match games played and more planned. Rev J B McBride of Princeton Iowa visited Brockways and preached at Bethel church. Horne couple hosted friends in Davenport. Ike Smith of Kidon worked as Firefly engineer.

City Council Deadlocks on New Brick Sewer Plan

A called council meeting failed to approve a two thirds vote for a south side brick sewer resolution after an even four four tally. Members dispute the contract handling and funding already set aside, with laboring citizens in mind and a next meeting promised to resolve the issue. Marriage at Columbus Junction and wagon crash outcome

Justice Rogers joined in marriage C J Gribbell and Miss Mary Preston last night near Columbus Junction. In the morning at the factory a team belonging to F E Swift became frightened and scattered wagon parts along the route to A T Wallace lumber yard. no injuries reported. An elevator in Havre caught fire yesterday but was quickly extinguished by the town's bucket brigade with little damage reported.

Regimental Encampment Funds Raise in City

Washington sought funds in August for a regimental encampment after Gen. Wright of Des Moines approved the site above the Rock Island tracks. City aims to raise 00 to cover light and water needs. Ottumwa raised 800 last year. Mayor Geo. Ross Major J. 2D Glasgow Capt. D. W. Harvey and C J Wilson lead the solicitation with early success expected.
