Des Moines July 31 U P. W F Callendar of the federal bureau of crop estimates and twelve assistants arrive to audit Iowa corn hog quotas. The probe follows requests by Leslie M Carl and Iowa AAA officials to resolve a long dispute over quotas and payments. Officials had cut the state quota from 12 667 000 to 11 970 000 then to 11 410 000 before suspending further benefits. The investigation may take about two weeks.

Heat wave fails to affect Iowa on July 3

Increase in Beer Tax Revenues in Iowa
Des Moines reports July beer tax receipts nearly doubled from 1935 with $110,776 collected versus $57,886 a year earlier. Inheritance taxes slipped to $57,929 for July against $61,113 in 1933 and $190,558 last month. The old age pension fund stood at $686,462 at month end.

Des Moines July 81-09 Dr Walter L Bierring state health commissioner warned that fluorine in water is harmful to teeth and not to be confused with chlorine. He noted mottled enamel linked to 147 city supplies, 367 free of fluorine, and cited deep wells in several communities as causes. He urged avoidance of wells near polluted streams and said a fluorine free supply prevents mottled teeth. He also cited Iowa disease figures for the week ending July 26 with whooping cough leading, then measles, tuberculosis and scarlet fever.
