Injured when car leaves county road near Washington
Barbara Popejoy 20 of Fairfield was rushed from Washington County Hospital to University Hospitals Iowa City for neck injuries after the car she rode in left County Road W55 three miles south of Washington at 3 56 a m. Driver Mitchell Popejoy 19 was treated at the Washington County Hospital. The car hit a barricade and rolled into a ditch on the Wesley Widmer farm, total damage about $2000.

Four admit drunk driving in Washington County court
In Washington County District Court four men faced drunk driving charges. Robert C. Wright of Kalona received a three month suspended sentence and one year probation, with license suspension until completing a Kirkwood College drinking drivers course. Kerr, Henderson, and Wilken pled guilty to OMVSA charges and set sentencing for August 5. Henderson altered his plea from innocent. Wilken marked a second offense. Dennis M. Berg pleaded innocent to resisting execution of process and waived speedy trial rights.
