The editor states intent to run for clerk if the convention wills it. Dr. A Bourn defeats rivals 7 to 0. McCartney and Son advertise fruit jars at 70 cents per dozen, noting another firm offers the same jars for 3 cents per item. Read the advertisement.
Mrs J McDowell aged eighty three died yesterday morning at ten in her northeast Wash county home after forty years in the county She bore sons to the Civil War one disappeared the other returned but died from camp life Her husband Matthew McDowell died twenty years ago Her daughter Mrs Mary White also died after the war Surviving children are Mrs Martha Donaldson Mrs Maggie Glasgow and Mrs Joseph Kilgore The family moved from Pennsylvania and helped organize the United Presbyterian church at Living Lake The funeral was this afternoon at two o'clock The Washington County Medical Society will meet September first with a noted program and benefit to physicians Miss Cornelia Klass hosted a gathering for the normal faculty and friends with light refreshments

Edward Benjamin Little died at 12 10 am in the city. He was two years and ten months old, born in Indianola. The family, now living in the east part of town, recently moved here from Indianola. A separate note mentions a false report of Mrs P Burroughs near Dublin, corrected by friends in this city.
A meeting is called for Tuesday evening at Music Hall to organize a Sound Money club. All Sound Money men from both parties are invited to attend, by order of Com. The forecast for Iowa is fair and cooler tonight with increasing cloudiness Friday. Funeral services for Mrs. A. Anderson were held this afternoon at four at the family residence, conducted by Rev. W. G. Thorne. Interment was in Kim Grove cemetery. A large concourse of friends attended. An extended obituary will appear tomorrow.
Waterloo Justice Miller bound Rev. George EB Scott to the grand jury in $2,000 bail after closing arguments. Scott is unlikely to furnish bail and habeas corpus may be filed to challenge the detention while prosecutors argue more evidence could be produced if not constrained by expense.

In Muscatine Iowa on July 29 Belle Knott fifteen and Gertie Bishop thirteen died after a rickety wooden box used as a boat capsized in a pond near James Hrner’s residence. The two girls were pulled from eight feet of water after about thirty minutes. medical help arrived too late and resuscitation failed.
The Smith residence about two and a half miles northwest of Black Hawk was struck by lightning Monday night. The family slept through the blaze and could not save furniture or clothing, leaving them in dire need.
