A Sales Management survey highlights Washington County New York as a rich market with per family income of 4176 and total local sales of 20 986 000 for the year. The county’s quality of market index is 107, placing it 7 percent above the national sales potential.
The Three-Quarter Century club dinner, sponsored by the Journal, is set for August 26 at Washington Country Club with noon service. New members Edward E. Wiley and Mrs. Wiley have applied. eligibility requires 75 years of residency in Washington County and a Journal application.
Lt William D Miller and nine enlisted Guardsmen depart by motor convoy for Ft Leonard Wood Missouri meeting at Ainsworth Junction with units from Dubuque Davenport Clinton and Oelwein. They bivouac at Fulton and arrive Sunday afternoon. An advance party went last Tuesday. The main force under Capt Harold Stephens will leave tonight by Milwaukee train for a two week encampment. the company includes five officers one warrant officer and 59 enlisted men.
Foreign observers in Moscow say Russia would again quit the United Nations if the Security Council excludes Communist China Peiping. They argue Korea issues require full Soviet and Peiping participation and oppose UN actions taken without all permanent members.
An aftershock rattled Imperial Valley for the third day with damage including broken plate glass and scattered store stock. San Diego saw tremors in the downtown area with no injuries reported. The strongest quake at 7 36 a m PDT registered intensity four, followed minutes later by a severe aftershock. In Brawley two plate glass windows shattered and drug stores reported about 1000 dollars in lost supplies as bottles hit the floor.
The quarterly A M E church meeting will be held Sunday August 6 instead of August 12 as previously reported. The change shifts the schedule and venue remains to be announced.
New officers led by Commander Marion Rapp of Washington mer chant and World War II veteran will assume duties at Leon Beatty American Legion post No 2 on Tuesday evening August 1. The slate includes Harold Boyd as first vice commander Don Shepherd as second vice commander St W Easter as adjutant Rev Basil McBee chaplain Russell Miller sergeant at arms Ed Muck finance officer Phil Kneen historian Harold Jarvis publicity officer Everett Burham service officer George Baker Charles Hotle and Ray Minick as executive officers. The group plans greater member cooperation to boost Legion work and community service and notes last year’s scholarship to David Chilcote and this year's to Dorothy Dickey plus Sunset park playground equipment and two new slides funded by Legion.
8th Army reports rapid changes along a 200 mile front as Red forces advance on several sectors. In the northwest the 1st Cavalry is driven from Hwanggan, Kochang falls with light resistance, and a U S unit in the south is driven to the sea with coastal rescues by South Korean forces. In the north and east communists ease their drive while counterattacks close gaps. Western allied estimates claim heavy communist losses and major reinforcements, including the 1st Marine Brigade and 2nd Infantry Division, are arriving by airlift and sea.
Frank Greenwood aged 25 has been hired by Jones Funeral Home. A Kansas City College of Mortuary Science graduate, he hails from Monticello Iowa and resides at 116 East Main Washington. He is a St James church member and active in the VFW and has just passed the state board and begins a class A apprenticeship.
The Blu-White Turkey Farm was named exclusive area dealer for Occident Feeds. The ad clarifies Blu-White handles Occident flour instead of feeds, marking a new local distribution arrangement.

Des Moines reports the state bonus board reminds World War II veterans that December 31 is the final date to file claims for the state bonus. Board officials say most eligible veterans likely have already applied.
Donald Stutsman of Washington was fined 40 dollars in Burlington on charges of excessive speeding. Frison police filed the information after Stutsman outdistanced them in a pursuit.

Iowa's top .22 caliber marksmen gathered at Camp Dodge for the state small bore rifle championships. Competition ran today and tomorrow with conventional matches for trophies and medals tomorrow. Top performers would split the entry fees as prizes under a new plan. Sponsored by the Iowa State Rifle Association and staged by the Cedar Rapids rifle and pistol club.
Three people drowned in Oklahoma as heavy rains caused flash floods. An auto with four occupants ran off U S highway 69 near Eufaula. three Slade family members from Kansas City and Austin Texas were killed, while 6-year-old Tommy Slade survived. Enid evacuees totaled about 200 as 4.16 inches fell and crews warned of more showers.
In Amerrillo Texas Judge fined John Ishmael Rogers and Vernon Carter $80 total after they admitted speeding and reckless driving. Each posted $5 to start a racing game where both sped to a turning point and back with the first to the start taking the pot.
American troops on the Korean front held lines after a no retreat order as Gen MacArthur reported the southern front contained the communist threat near Pusan and Taegu. Lt Gen Walker warned no Korean Dunkerque and no sea evacuation, urging stand or annihilation.
