Doctors and child welfare workers from many Iowa communities will attend a banquet at Hotel Fort Des Moines for the dedication of the new Iowa Lutheran hospital infantile paralysis clinic. The clinic will use Sister Elizabeth Kenny’s method, introduced in Australia over 30 years ago and now taught by American doctors in Minnesota and at the University of Minnesota and Minneapolis General Hospital.
Chariton born Swedish centenarian Christine Larson, 100, died. Born in Sweden in November 1841, she came to Galesburg, Illinois, in 1870, married Gustave Larson there, and lived in Chariton since 1871. Survived by son John and daughter Freda.
Westlawn Presbyterian board in Sioux City announced it purchased 6500 dollars in war bonds with funds saved for a new church. The construction plans were postponed until after the war due to material needs.
Ralph A. Beall 31 delivering papers for his ill son Ronnie parked on a hill and forgot to set the brakes. His car rolled down, hit a repair garage and a house, then stopped against a brick wall. Damages totaled 270 dollars including 150 to the garage and 100 for Beall's car.
A collision between two freight trains near the station at Post Ville injured two crew members. Engineer Fred Rietz of Marquette broke a collarbone after leaping from his car. fireman Art Rehm of Marquette suffered minor injuries. The 55 car westbound train crew escaped harm. cause of the crash was not immediately determined.
Raymond Stone aged 24 of Albia died when struck by lightning while he was heaving a hayfield. The body was found at 2 30 p m by his father after the field was checked. Overshoes and clothing on the victim were burned from the body.
The official journal disclosed that the government appropriated 10 million francs for the maintenance of the new tri color legion in Vichy France. This marks the first public acknowledgment that the army corps is officially sponsored and its size may exceed the Franco German armistice limits.

Alberta Wagner, 83, died July 23 at her home in Cascd era California. A daughter of Mr and Mrs John Wagner her family home was in Washington. She moved from Washington about 25 years ago and is survived by several nephews including two in California and one in Illinois. Boice Wagner, a nephew, died weeks earlier.
Officials stated the fire’s cause is not yet known and ruled out the water heater as the likely origin. Fire crews investigated the scene and warned residents to take precautions while the investigation continues.
Sheriff H. M. Putnam took two New York men who admitted desertion from army camps in Pennsylvania and South Carolina to army officers at Rock Island. Ralph W. Masse and Hubert A. St. John, both 21 and 27, from Lake Placid, N Y, were identified. William Bolin, of Lake Placid, had no registration card but claimed to have registered in Messina, N Y and was released. Leda St John, sister to Hubert, 18, was wanted in Lake Placid for grand larceny.
Army recruiting officers conducted interviews for the Army Air Corps in Washington drawing many young men from eastern Iowa and western Illinois. Everett Burham of the Veterans of Foreign Wars said about 35 attended yesterday and more were expected at city hall today. Sergeant Paul E. Schleyer led the visit with Lieutenant Frank V. Kent possibly arriving to induct CPT class students into the air corps reserve.
