Traffic fatalities rise in southeast Iowa weekend toll
United Press Internarvor reports two people died in a Sunday night crash in southeast Iowa, pushing the weekend traffic death toll to 16, the highest in three years. The victims were Harold M. Holt, 27, of Fairfield and David L. Thomas, 21, of Douds, in a car that ran off Iowa 1 three miles south of Fairfield.

Turkish officers to relieve American commanders at 12 bases
Ankara said Turkish officers will take over at 12 U S bases in Turkey on Tuesday. Six sites including four intelligence installations and Incirlik airbase will have operations suspended Sunday with U S forces, and six smaller communications sites will stay under Turkish control.

The United States posted its largest monthly trade surplus ever in June with exports exceeding imports by 1.74 billion dollars, marking the fifth straight black month and a 5.4 billion half year total. Exports rose 6.7 percent led by motor vehicles wheat machinery and aircraft while imports fell 2 percent helped by lower crude oil costs. The buoyant trade outlook amid a recession dollar weakness and cheaper commodities could yield a 1975 surplus contrary to predictions.

County Fair Opens Under Clear Skies At Washington County

SEATS bus schedule cut back in Washington County
The Washington County SEATS bus will run through August on a reduced schedule as the SEATS committee seeks funding for another year. Trips to Iowa City and Cedar Rapids continue Mondays while Friday trips outside the county are dropped. Weekday hours shrink to eight hours with Tuesday and Thursday at nine hours and daytime and evening routes to the Washington County Fair remain available funded by local donations. Bus crashes into ravine killing twenty two pilgrims near Chalma Mexico
A bus carrying about 50 religious pilgrims slipped off a mountain road near Chalma and rolled 200 feet into a rocky ravine. Twenty two died and 36 injured as authorities labeled it one of Mexico's worst crashes. Most victims were pedestrians struck as the bus slid down. The eight year old vehicle ran off the road three miles from Chalma en route to Our Lord's Sanctuary. Survivors recalled laughter turning to chaos as people were hurled from the bus. Red Cross reported bodies and injured spread over a 100 yard area.
