Phil will be admissions counselor registrar and Lynne will teach office education. The superintendent expects Board action Aug. 10 and will release contracts if suitable replacements are found.

Bell reports 80 percent of Korean bribery probe done
Attorney General Griffin Bell told about 100 House members that the Justice Department's Korean bribery investigation is roughly 80 percent complete with several cases near decision on indictments. Assistant AG Benjamin Cibiletti said indictments may come in the near future and that the probe is in the evidence review stage with a small number of cases at that point. Tongsun Park’s sudden London departure complicated interviews as investigators have questioned hundreds and reviewed thousands of documents.

Washington County Extension Director Jim Frier says livestock barns and exhibit facilities will be cleaned and set up Friday July 29 from 8 to 11 am. A large number of 4 H FFA members and volunteers are needed, bringing garden rakes shovels post drivers hammers and other tools. Entries for Aug 4 are near last year’s record. After the fair a cleanup day is planned Friday Aug 5 from 8 to 11 am.

Calf Drag Incident Leaves Youth Injured in Washington
A rural Washington youth, Lance Bohlen, 13, was dragged by a 700 lb calf on the Bohlen farm north of Washington while leading the animal by a rope tied to his wrist. He sustained a severely broken right arm and other injuries and remained in stable condition at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. His mother Donna Bohlen suffered minor injuries and was treated and released.

Fifth Annual Pony Show Set By Ainsworth Lions Club
The Ainsworth Lions Club readies the Fifth Annual Horse and Pony Show at the Ainsworth School ball field this Saturday. The event will feature 19 classes with halter at 4 p.m. and performance at 6 p.m. Admission is $1 for adults, free for under 12. A $100 savings bond drawing and two $10 gift certificates from Bryn Mawr Steak House and Shamrock Inn will be awarded, with lunch on grounds. Exhibitors pay a $1.50 entry fee.

Lottery millionaire on unemployment in Potsdam NY
Gary LaShomb, 31, who won the state lottery jackpot of 1,000 a week for life, is drawing unemployment in Massena area while unemployed from a supermarket job. He receives a tax free 90 weekly unemployment check and about 600 weekly after taxes from the lottery win. He left for a camping trip and could not be reached for comment. His father confirmed the situation. He was laid off after refusing to return from vacation to fill a produce order. He had planned to work at least three years. He and his family have moved to a modern house from a low income housing project.
