Iowa Southern Utilities Co reports a new peak of 379000 kilowatts on Friday July 15, surpassing 375000 kilowatts set two days earlier. Last year’s peak was 345000 kilowatts. Officials attribute the rise to heavy air conditioning use and higher industrial demand during the hot spell.
All youths interested in joining the County Fair pet parade should call the Extension Office promptly. The parade is set for Wednesday August 3 at 6 00 p m at the Fair with ribbons for all entrants and trophies for dog cat and miscellaneous class winners. A blood drive by the Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center in Washington yielded 76 units, far below the 100-unit goal. Volunteer chairman Russ Williams blamed the turnout, saying officials are disappointed and aim for at least 400 units a year in quarterly sessions. The next draw is scheduled for October 24.
Director Milburn McKay announced the Washington Municipal Band concert for Central Park Wednesday at 8 p.m. The program features Iowa Band Law, Fort Bragg march, Champagne waltz, Children's Medley, Colonel Bogey, Rose Marie, Mount of Might, My Wild Irish Rose, Brasses to the Fore, Best Loved Southern Melodies, Marcho Poco, On the Alamo, Dark Town Strutters Ball, Loyalty, and Star Spangled Banner.
The Washington Crop Boosters Club invites area farmers to enter the annual corn and soybean yields contest by noon Thursday. Entries are submitted via Maxine Bauer at Tindal Farm Supply in Washington, with results checked by Iowa State University computers. United Press International reports Iowa skies partly cloudy and mild tonight with lows in the 50s to lower 60s. Wednesday will bring slightly warmer temperatures with a chance of showers in the west and south. highs range from the upper 70s in the northeast to the mid 80s in the southwest.

A district court decree reinstates former Mid-Prairie teacher Claudia J. Horick of Iowa City and awards $5.00 in damages for loss of her Evergreen Rural School post. The decree filed May 25 in Washington County notes the 1976-77 salary would have been $10,384, now settled at $5,000, with her contract valid for 1977-78.
William R. Whittenberg 18 of Washington was treated at Washington County Hospital for head cuts after his convertible collided with a westbound truck driven by Craig S. Buehneman 23 of Sigourney at South Avenue B and West Madison Street. Whittenberg was charged with failure to yield after a stop. The 800 dollar truck damage and a second minor crash on East Third Street and North 12th Avenue involving Richard Martin and Kenneth Kron are noted with Kron charged for failure to yield after a stop.
The Iowa Farm Bureau and the Iowa Corn Growers Association announced a formal agreement to collaborate on corn policy. Leaders E Thurman Gaskill and Dean Kleckner said the pact requires advance consultation before major policy decisions or programs affecting corn producers.
August food stamp sale dates announced for Washington County. August 4 serves city residents, August 5 covers other county areas, and August 19 includes all residents. Chicago police report a gunman in Pekin Cleaners injuring his finger while attempting to demonstrate a loaded .25-caliber pistol to hostages. He fled with a television set and $5 after the accident, leaving the severed finger behind for fingerprint identification.
