Berlin reports cabinet orders conferring decorations on about 300 Americans connected to Prince Henry of Prussia's visit. Papers sent to Emperor William. response awaited. Ter rence A. Smiley alias Sheady, a burglar who has served twenty years, laments Lant K. Salsbury’s transfer to Detroit. A Chicago court letter, now with Smiley’s attorney N. T. P. Allen, advises Smiley to court Salsbury, described as having influence in Grand Rapids to aid his case.
New York on July 22 Russell Sage had a narrow escape when boarding a Broadway car. His foot slipped and he fell being dragged about fifteen feet before the car stopped. He was unhurt but shaken by the incident.
London July 22 The Dover Ostend yacht race yesterday was won by the Cleely owned by Cecil Quentin of England The Clara owned by M Gillaumeau was second subject to protest
Five masked men blew open the safe in the New York and Stamford railroad office at Fort Chester New York and stole about 2000 dollars.
In Anderson Indiana on July 22 five thousand gathered in the Indiana Association of Spiritualists camp. The 3000 seat auditorium was dedicated with addresses by Harrison I Barrett Boston president of the National Association of Spiritualists Lyman C Howe Fredonia NY Mrs Josephine Repp Cincinnati and Jennie Hagan Brown Dallas. In Bloomington central Indiana Catholics dedicated St Pauls Church near Odell at a cost of 25000 dollars. Bishop Spalding and Auxiliary Bishop OReilly oversaw the ceremonies.
London reports the funeral for John W. Mackay of San Francisco who died Sunday evening. His body will be sent to New York for burial in Greenwood cemetery Brooklyn in a marble mausoleum costing about 300000 dollars. The monument features a complete chapel, space for twenty two bodies, electric lighting and a fifty ton roof slab. Mrs Mackay is grief stricken. Obituaries fill both morning and afternoon papers. Mackay founded a world renowned cable system, part of the Mackay Hennett system.
New York July 22 A formal complaint of grand larceny was filed against ex Captain Putnam Bradlee Strong by May Yohe who, with her mother and lawyer, visited police headquarters. A general alarm was issued for Strong who vanished from Hastings. The Knieckerbockes Safe Deposit vault contained jewels valued at 250000 missing since Saturday pawn tickets worth 100000 were recovered.
A Sunday night collision in Indianapolis between Pennsylvania Rail Road Post Mail No 11 from New York to St Louis and an Indianapolis and Vincennes freight injured three people and demolished several freight cars. Injured: engineer Janes Stoltz Covington Ohio, brakeman George Holder Indianapolis, porter KB Henderson Covington. All will recover. Cause cited as crew misreading a signal.
New Orleans on July 22 reports the Jenningswell No 2 fire ended yesterday afternoon before a huge crowd. The steam test proved fully successful and no chemicals were required in the operation.
Acting on Carnegie police chief information, City Marshal Otis arrested Frederick Thiess in Kewanee for the murder of Tufer Banata. Thiess worked at Western Tube Co mills under the alias Miller. The report notes Thiess’s suspected crime and location.

Illinois shows the highest farm land value at 2,004,316,807 dollars while Iowa, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, and others report sizable totals for improved lands and hay grain land. The bulletin notes irrigator counts rising and acres irrigated doubling, with a New Jersey-like coastal tease of unrelated incidents in Janesville and St. Petersburg.
In Paris on July 22 the 11 year old Effie Carnes was abducted by her sister Mrs Ed Hall of Montana a mine promoter wife. A one armed man, Lawrence Derete, was swept toward the Alpena train on the Detrett and Macktive bridge. He leapt to the outside, clung to a bar, and fell as the train passed, vanishing into the river. Joe Mayhew witnessed the splash and pulled him from the water after a dive. In Chik, July 22, election notices advised naming candidates for an Archbishop Feehan successor. sixteen rectors and conc foliators were summoned by Bishop Spalding for conferences.

In Rome on July 12 the pope hosted Governor Taft and his party in a formal farewell audience. Taft and Judge Smith wore evening dress, Major Porter in uniform, and Bishop O Gorman in ecclesiastical robes. The meeting, conducted in French, praised U.S. methods and cooperation with the Vatican. The pope noted false reports and showed interest in Roosevelt’s gift mosaic. Taft later visited Cardinal Rampolla before leaving for Naples. In Iowa, July 22, Sioux City reports brakeman L Powell stabbed near Arion by a tramp, with a carpenter recalling Powell injured the attacker.
