Gov. George Wallace had an incision and drainage operation at University of Alabama Hospital to drain an abdominal abscess from May 15 bullet injuries. Surgeons said the procedure was minor, there were no complications, and he is doing fine.
A truck carrying cigarettes caught fire on the Frankfurt Mannheim highway in Darmstaedt Germany. Police said about 500000 cartons valued at 300000 dollars were consumed before firefighters arrived.
Muscatine officials say 12 law enforcement officers raided a rural farmhouse Tuesday night. Gregory Zather and Joan Perryman, both charged with possession of a controlled substance, were found with a large quantity of marijuana packaged for resale along with LSD and drugs believed to be cocaine and heroin. Investigators also recovered hypodermic needles water pipes and related drug shooting equipment.
Washington reports Henry Kissinger, President Nixon adviser, met privately in Paris with North Vietnamese negotiators Le Duc Tho and Xuan Thuy. The talks aim to restart the Paris peace negotiations as Tho signals willingness to consider new U S offers. The White House said Kissinger would return to Washington today.

Sen. William Saxbe of Ohio urged Nixon to dump Vice President Spiro Agnew in favor of a more outgoing, friendlier, enlightened figure. The suggestion followed Sen. Jacob Javits of New York and came as AFL-CIO leaders debated backing McGovern and Eagleton. Meany voiced disappointment in the Democratic ticket.
