Mikesch Named New Patrol Chief In State Safety Plan
Mikesch will replace the current system in 14 patrol districts with a central command structure and will boost cooperation with the county sheriffs and other local agencies. He plans fewer motor vehicle safety checks overall with tighter emphasis in spring and fall. Sueppel said he interviewed patrol ranks and about 50 officers and citizens before selecting Mikesch from three finalists. Mikesch, a Manly native who joined the patrol in 1937, has held key posts in the motorcycle unit and state headquarters and lives at 1501 Mattern Ave with his wife and son John, a senior at St Ambrose College.
