Agriculture Department officials told Congress there was no evidence that 32 million dollars of surplus grain vanished on the way to Austria and ended up behind the Iron Curtain. But inspector general Lester P. Condon said tracing shipments of 24 million bushels over three years failed after they reached Europe. Evidence shows Austrian importers acted as fronts for West German buyers, with diversions likely to West Germany.
